[About the Book]
A little boy named Max puts on a wolf suit and begins to get into mischief. He gets in trouble and his Mother sends him to his room without his supper. While in his room, Max's imagination runs wild. His room grows into a forest and he sails off to a place "where the wild things are." Max quickly tames the fierce beasts, becomes their leader, and "the wild rumpus begins." But, Max decides he "wants to be where someone loved him best of all" and sails off toward home. When he arrives, he finds his dinner in his room . . . still hot."
[Additional Notes]
This book is a classic story that has survived the passage of time. It has fantastic illustrations and conveys several important messages to our children -- there are consequences for misbehaving; being top dog and the decision maker isn't always as easy or as desireable as we think it is; and there really is no place like home. This classic tale is another must have book and another Resource favorite.
Where the Wild Things Are won the 1964 Caldecott Medal. It has also been honored by the New York Times for Best Children's Book Illustrations.
