Learning with Thomas the Tank Engine
Learning with Thomas the Tank Engine is easy as the Thomas Wooden Railway system is designed to help your child grow -- and glow -- inside and out. Repetition is the key to sustained and early learning in children and the continued and repeated play children experience with the Thomas Wooden Railway system encourages and brings meaning to early learning concepts. Pretend play and using the imagination are very important developmental stages for all young children. Thomas provides excellent opportunities for children to develop and grow through these developmental stages.
Learning Through Play
Learning with Thomas the Tank Engine is fun as the Thomas Wooden Railway system allows your child to develop important skills and have fun at the same time!
Brightly painted engines reinforce color identification.
Numbered engines encourage counting skills and number identification.
Bridges and tunnels teach spatial concepts. Bridges go up and down with a high point and a low point. Drawbridges teach about the concept of too big or not high enough as the bridge must be raised to allow passage underneath. Tunnels teach about the concepts of going through, inside, and coming out the other side.
Creating layouts promotes problem-solving and simple math skills such as addition and subtraction. Little ones learn that one small 2" piece plus a medium 4" piece equals a large 6" piece or that a large 6" piece minus a small 2" piece equals a medium 4" piece. Children also reinforce the spatial concepts needed to build their own track lay-outs as they begin to understand about needing more or less track to connect a lay-out as well as needing straight or curved pieces to connect a lay-out.
Interactive pieces help develop hand and eye coordination and fine motor skills required to assemble track and operate the Thomas Wooden Railway system parts and pieces. But learning with Thomas the Tank Engine also happens in a larger sense as well.
