Use Childrens Storybooks to Teach and Expose
Childrens storybooks not only provide significant benefits to our children, they are one of the best ways to expose
children to new ideas, new thoughts, and new situations right in the comfort of your own home. Reading childrens storybooks to a child helps bring meaning to his world as he grows and develops. There is so much that we, as adults, take for granted because we forget that a child has limited reasoning ability and limited experience and can't possibly understand the world around him.
For example, take the birth of a new sibling. We, as parents and adults, know that we are not replacing our older child and that we love him just as much as before the new baby. But a young child may not understand this. He may see a new baby as a threat. At the very least, he most certainly sees the new baby taking up a great deal of mommy's and daddy's time.
Reading childrens storybooks about a new sibling is a great way to commumicate with your child on his level. It will help him understand your love for him has not changed. It will help him understand about sharing his parents' time. And it will help him accept his new family member.
Childrens storybooks are a wonderful way to expand horizons and learn about distant lands and foreign cultures. Sure, first-hand experience is the most exciting, but who among us has the ability to travel extensively with our little ones? Instead, we can travel into the pages of a good childrens storybook where we explore the African jungle, or the Great Wall of China, or the Jamaican Islands, or outer space, or sail the seven seas as a pirate. Reading childrens storybooks can bring these exciting experiences right to your door step.
Is your child afraid of the dark? Read a story about it to help quell his fears. Are you trying to start potty training? Read a story about it to help explain the process on his level. Do you battle over clean up time? That's right . . . read a story about it. Are trips to the doctor or dentist difficult? You got it . . . read a story about it. Do you wish bedtime went a little smoother? You guessed it . . . read a story about it. Are you trying to teach appropriate behavior? Most definitely . . . read a story about it!
Childrens storybooks
are a great way to communicate with your child on his level in a direct and non-threatening way and there is something written on just about every problem, lesson, or topic you might imagine.
Read a story about it from a childrens storybook. It might just be the magic you are looking for . . .
