A baby bird hatches out of his egg while his mother is searching for food. So, the baby bird decides to look for his mother. He meets a kitten, a hen, a dog, a cow, an old car, a boat, a plane, and a steam shovel and in turn asks each of them, "Are you my mother?" The steam shovel which the confused baby bird refers to as "Snort" returns the baby bird to his nest where he is finally reunited with his mother.
